On Sunday, July 13, represents one of the highlights of the year, the mud marathon of Schermerhorn. Together with Ton I watch the events. Weeks in advance I received mails from Martin, who wants to participate. I've brought him into contact with the organization. Indeed, without an early registration you may simply not participate. There will be fought for the award. He could still participate and went along with his friend started by the veterans. I have many photographs of them both. That was possible because they were real believers, while I stopped as usual after a round...

With the seniors there was a nice young group. Two boys from Schermerhorn and two young Mexicans walked together. At the site of Ton stand their adventures in the sights and sounds. Personally I have more photos of the blonde boy in jeans. Together with another Dutchman he helped the Mexicans repeatedly in the beginning. The Dutch reached effortlessly to the finish, while the Mexicans stopped after two rounds. Both Dutchmen were cleaned in bad. Apparently they had for a dash to the ladies. Officially, only the numbers 1, 2 and 3 entitled to such preferential treatment.

Traditionally, the two heats with groups are the highlight of the day. In groups of four boys with one girl gathered twice over a dozen groups at the start. For most participants it is a recreational happen. In addition to a single group in trainers and a team who fight for the cleanest lady, most participants are dressed casual. You see every year the same participants. The photo beneath was a lucky shot. Most of the groups I have dozens of photos. I can not remember this group. I do have only one picture of these. In my new camera is the number of shots per unit time only limited by the amount of memory (800 pieces). So it is no longer necessary for the start of a race to use the video camera.

Although the participants are after a few ditches almost unrecognizable, the boy beneath is reflected in the pages of 2005, 2006, 2007 and earlier. Clean hardly noticeable, he completely covered with mud becomes a beauty. He has number 8 on the back. The next group has that number too. I remember that he always went first. The group was in ripped jeans and covered with white paint. After a few locks it makes no any difference, what the original color of the clothes was. What is important is to what extent he draws tightly against the body and shiny.

For the recognizability are the shirts worn important. The substance of the white with blue tshirt is recognizable even after three rounds through the mud. The jeans in the beginning wasn't spectacular, but become really beautiful now. I've had a whole series of them. Jeans do it almost always very good. There were a number of people in white. And that appears to have little meaning. Even after the first really muddy ditch is the spectacular white no longer distinguishable from the blue of an ordinary pair of jeans.

Martin was present with his friend Jack. The race they ran in bleu jeans. Nice... But after the race jack changed in a sparkling white trouser. He remain near the most dangerous places along the course. For one reason or another, the pants were almost clean afterwards. The mud wasn't as resistance as other years. That he found himself apparently. After my last dive in the mud with the clothes, which I had to go home, he came to help me. That he had no need to do. Before I knew he was in his beautiful white trainer next to me in the ditch.

I'm go in the ditches for times between the firms. Twice with jeans. Once in sparkling white and khaki. The photos in jeans were by far the conviction. That's quite a bit of rushing between the shooting. The first time with the regular race I was in khaki. Then jeans with a black sweater, body warmer, shirt and tshirt. The ultimate kick to complete under the mud to bring. Ton took the pictures. Then, dressed in a sparkling white pants, blue sweater, shirt and tshirt. I hoped one or other group to seduce me as a reserve 'white' in a boat to the other side too. Since Ton also wanted in the mud, I walked with him for a photo of him. By surprise he took me with him, unfortunately missing the picture at the beginning. So you missed the sparkling white pants in front.

Above the clothing after the triple dives as spectator in the ditch. To the left jeans, light / dark blue sweater, purple / pink shirt, red tshirt and leather shoes. To the right jeans, dark gray shirt, red tshirt, black sweater and light gray body warmer. In the middle the result after a dip in the ditch dressed in jacket, blue striped sweater with sparkling white tshirt, shirt and pants. The photo after the dive I still think is the most satisfactory. Next year I will therefore take part in this way in the ordinary race ...
