Mud marathon of Schermerhorn 2004

Last Sunday there was the tenth championship of Holland and the 27e mud marathon of Schermerhorn. Ton and I were there in time. Ton doesn't subscribe. We were quiet surprised, that it was impossible for him to participate. Consequently I was alone at 12.00 o'clock and he has to takes pictures only. I was in my nice clothes: jeans, short, t-shirt and jeans jacket. But there were a number of gentlemen in suit and tie. So next year I have something better to wear. Like every year there were some bathes for the winners with servants. In the meantime they have nothing do. So one of them toke a fully clothes bath and stay in for a while. Ton was fascinated by this brave act and missed the start of the seniors.
The first head was of ladies and veterans. Like every year I participated and It was heavy like always. The organizer wasn't sure about the number of ditches. He asked us to report the right number. The whether wasn't very well. There was no rain, but the wind was strong and chilly. A lot of participants did one round only. So the suited gentlemen did. They changed the course. The deep and very muddy ditches on the end of the meadow are replaced by a number of smaller ones. Some participants hurt them self while trying to stay clean. Ton toke a lot of pictures. So there are now pictures of myself too. May be it is next year an idea to do it with three people like a relay race.
Again the seniors are the nicest group. Quiet a number of young fresh people attend and some veterans did the real championship. Exhausted they try to complete the race. However Ton missed the start he had some picts of the participants before, when they are still clean. I concentrated me on the participants in normal street clothes. Most of the seniors are in workout clothes. The normal clothes people are very rare. That's a pity. Such a change to trash your normal clothes aren't very often. The participant beneath was there last year too. I mist him clean before the start. May be he hide them self or was late. I do have several pictures of him during the race.
There weren't much mud lovers. Rudy participated with the veterans and go home afterwards. But John was there again in a beautiful white jeans and shirt. To the very end he decided to join the final ditches with the last group. He should be on the picture beneath, but he is unrecognizable. Some white isn't there anymore. Self I am dunked twice. The first time I wear a body warmer, grey jeans, sweeter, Nikes, shirt and t-shirt. After the passing of the last seniors I had to 'equalize' the spatters on my clothes. Ton try to help my out the deep ditch, but lost his balance and fall in too...
There was only one head with four guys and a lady in a boat. Twenty five groups started. They have to use the boat and will be disqualified when the boat was broken and the lady become unnecessary dirty. As far as I could see every group should be disqualified. None of the ladies was to distinct from the gentlemen. May be next year white clothes for the lady are compulsory (?) The price for the most clean lady couldn't be given, because nobody could find any lady under the mud.
One of the better clothed participants wear jeans and yellow t-shirt. On the video you can see how he did the horizontal plunge by the first canal. After a while he was even unrecognizable as all other guys. You have to believe me, that he is on the other photo's too. After filming and taking pictures I talk to some group how nice the mud looks. Of course they offer to take me with them and so they did. In a tight kaki trousers, jumper, shirt and t-shirt and become completely soaked again.
