One of the highlights of the year, Kwalleballen, took place at a beautiful day in April. Many participants cut off there jeans. The boy to the left removed the rest of his legs too later on. Other sportsmen were more properly clothed. By several teams spontaneous spectators took part. Just in the clothes they are wearing. As usual I was on the field just as I was in jeans, jumper, shirt, tshirt, jeans and boots. I did have several changes with me. My intension was to do some fights. Often participants like to trash well clothed people a lot. Nect year I think about spontaneous playing in some teams again. In the gallery a lucky shot of Ton. There some guy is sitting fully dressed with a coat as well in a mud pit. His opponent leaves the field in jeans and sweater covered with mud as well. You can see, that both their clothes where clean at the start.
The winners this year were others then previous. So they didn't know the good traditions. The arbiter didn't end in the water hole. They didn't understand, that it wasn't my intention to drive home in clean clothes. But I was lucky. There wasn't still one guy that knows and did his duty. It wasn't a real burden for him, because he participate before and wasn't really clean them self. For me it was more dramatically. Just half minute before I wear a brand new and clean jeans with a clean jumper, shirt, etc. He wasn't the only one that remembers good traditions. Just after the break, and in brand new and clean clothes as well, the group of previous year, that throw me in the water hole came again and demand another turn. This time they had to fight for it. wrestling in the mud they have to work several minutes to get me in the pond. Right above you can see the result.
As mentioned before this year several members of the crowd participate. The boy in jeans and tshirt just removes his sweater and just entered the playground. He didn't spare his clothes. That isn't easy by the way. Sometimes a playmaker manages to stay clean for a while. He don't be involved with the fights, but wants to pick up the sandbag, when everybody lay down on the ground. But later on inevitable he will be taken down in the mud during a scrum or thrown in the mud by his own team. It is so nice to follow the process during several games. The guy above didn't really try to stay clean. From the very begin he several times goes down in the mud horizontally. He obvious likes to play in the mud. He jumped in the water hole and was to the end really covered with mud.
The guy in the grey trousers stay almost clean for several heads. He entered the battle with a brand new trouser. Every year you see participants like him. In the Gallery you can see the complete transformation. Above the moment he felt during a scrum backwarths in the mud with somebody above him. From one moment to the other his bud was completely covered with mud. There are pictures as well where is competely covered with mud. But I like the view, where you can see the original color of his trouser, knowing that a complete coverage is inevitable. Besides the big guys the youth did have a nice time too. Ton took a number of nice pictures. You can watch them in his gallery as well. Most of them were clearly unprepared, when they starts the fight.
